Newsrooms operate under constant pressure: digital abuse, accelerated production schedules, staff shortages and digital transformation clash with a professional ethos that often places the burden on the individual.
In their presentation at the “Workshop on Editorial Development”, Barbara Hans (Mindful Media Lab) and Malte Werner (Netzwerk Recherche, Helpline) show how mental strain arises in everyday editorial work – and why it is not merely a “resilience issue”, but a leadership and organisational challenge.
The second round of red@work (20–22 September in Konstanz on Lake Constance) will focus on what will help newsrooms in future to make their journalism even more effective and beneficial to society. To this end, the organisers are setting aside more time for the ‘Workshop 2026’ than they did last year, with the aim of targeting issues more precisely and exploring them in greater depth.
